In 1898 shipments from the Lemon Bay area, which included the two main settlements of Grove City and Englewood, were as follows: 625 tons of fish, valued at $50,000; 200 barrels of oysters, valued at $300; 30 barrels of Irish potatoes, valued at $210; and 100,000 feet of lumber. The “receipts” coming into the same area in 1898 included: 72 tons of general merchandise; 10 tons of fertilizers; 14 tons of grain; and 500 orange trees.
