Certified art instructor Carolyn Johnston offers a free art class for children ages 5 to 11 years old on Saturday, December 14th at 10:30 a.m. The theme for this session will be “Christmas Tree Crafts.” Registration is required and limited to 15 children, to register call the Sarasota County Call Center at 861-5000 or go to the events calendar at www.scgov.net/library and click on “Art with Carolyn” on the calendar. Also at 10:30 a.m., the Suncoast Writers Guild of Englewood Long Writers group meets in the upstairs conference room. This group works on manuscripts of greater than 25,000 words. At 11 a.m., the Multiple Myeloma Support group meets.
On Monday, December 16th at 10 a.m. the Mac/Reunion Group of the Englewood Genealogical Society of Florida meets, facilitated by Catherine Varney. At 5 p.m., escape the holiday bustle and relax with a Free Monday Night Movie on the big screen. This week Sandra Bullock stars as a young woman who save the life of a handsome stranger who she has fallen in love with from afar. His family mistakes her for his fiancée and she goes along because she likes his offbeat family so much. Matters take a hilarious turn she meets and falls in love with the handsome stranger’s brother.
The Englewood Area Computer Users Group meets on Tuesday, December 17th from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. Simple answers about computers provided by club members, offered in understandable language. All are welcome to attend, especially senior citizens.
The Teen Advisory Board meets on Wednesday, December 18th from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Come join the group and provide input and help with library programs. New members are always welcome. For more information contact Teen Librarian Deirdre Morrow at 861-1207. At 6:30 p.m., kids ages 9 to 18 years old are invited to Teen Game Night. We provide the gaming systems and games, you bring your friends and have a good time. No registration is required. Also at 6:30 p.m., the Alzheimer Caregiver Support Group meets to share, learn, and gain support for the experience of other caregivers. Join the South County Veteran’s Administration for information on all VA benefits and how to apply for them on Thursday, December 19th from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. This workshop is presented by the Senior Friendship Caregiver Resource Center. At 10:15 a.m., the Reading Discussion Group meets to discuss “Ella Minnow Pea” by Mark Dunn. All are welcome to attend. This group meets on the third Thursday of the month through April and is sponsored by the Friends of the Elsie Quirk Library. At 11 a.m., families are invited to join us for a Story Time entitled “More Holiday Fun.” This is an interactive program that includes stories, rhymes, singing, playing and more. It provides an introduction to early literacy skills. At 1 p.m., the Knitting Group meets. Bring your knitting, meet new friends, and spend an enjoyable two hours.
