Coming Soon….Summer Reading
The school year is ending and the long hot days of summer are fast approaching. Summer is a time for children to enjoy reading and catch up on all their favorite books and authors. Experts agree that those who read during the summer break gain valuable skills, while those who do not stay mentally active risk losing what they have learned during the previous year. The library provides summer reading programs to help expand each child’s knowledge of the world, while enhancing literacy skills.
This year kids ages birth to age eleven can “Dig Into Reading” and uncover great books, and enjoy programs which explore what is right beneath your feet! The Elsie Quirk Library will offer great programs for kids many days of every week. Learn about archaeology, sand art, fossils, and sharks! Listen to great music and enjoy a Pirate Treasure Adventure. Beginning June 1st, kids can pick up a reading log and start tracking all the great books they read. Complete seven days of reading and earn a reading incentive!
Teens ages eleven to eighteen have their own online summer reading program entitled “Beneath the Surface.” Sign up and log your reading online and be eligible to win great prizes every week. Great programs offered all summer including game nights, crafts including Celtic Knot bracelets, and the return of medieval sword fighting.
