The Englewood Pioneer Day’s Committee is busy working on the schedule for the 61st year of this community event. This year’s theme, “Beach Party – Englewood Style,” is sure to bring out creativity from everyone involved. All current information, contest forms, current parade and vendor participants, etc. is available on the web site: www.englewoodpioneerdays.com. Check back frequently, as it’s updated almost daily.
The celebration kicked off with the traditional Little Miss/Mr. Englewood Pageant on August 19th at the Lemon Bay High School Auditorium. On Sunday, August 20th, Englewood Bowl hosted the Family Bowling Tournament. Both were extremely successful and we appreciate all the support!
On Saturday, August 26th, Chalkfest 6.0 takes place on Dearborn St. Registration begins at 8am. There will be live music and other fun arts & crafts. The Englewood Art Center – Ringling has invited a 3-D chalk artist to join in this year! This event is free for all ages. Be sure to visit The Sno Queen afterward to get your “Pioneer Punch.” This delicious, ice-cold treat is the perfect way to end some outdoor fun!
The Kids’ Shipwreck Dance is to be held at Tringali Center that same night. This event is free and for children ages 9-15 years old. A DJ will provide music, beverages and pizza will also be available. Thank you to the Englewood Community Coalition and Tringali Center for sponsoring and hosting the dance.
On Sunday, August 27th come on down to the Tom Adams Bridge at 7:00 am for the annual Michael O’Donnell Memorial Fish-a-thon. This is a free fishing event for kids (accompanied by a parent or adult). Please reserve a place for your child beforehand. The Historical Tours will also take place that day; maps can be found online for those wishing to see parts of Englewood’s history.
The Sing-A-Long will be held at the Historic Green St. Church on August 29th at 7:00 PM, with the Englewood Little Band Of Writers playing and leading the singing. The Lemon Bay Historical Society will have a display of Pioneer Day Memorabilia. There is no charge for this event. Don’t forget to head to A Better Scoop Ice Cream Shoppe after this event for an ice cream social – and be sure to order the ‘Pioneer Sundae.’
On Saturday, September 2nd, Cardboard Boat races will begin at 9:00 AM at Indian Mound Park. This event will allow even the most novice of novices to try to paddle their way to victory. Applications are on-line at www.englewoodpioneerdays.com.
Saturday night, September 2nd marks the return of the Shipwreck Dance! There will be live music, beer garden, food trucks and a costume contest at this free, family-friendly event. The Englewood Drum The Taste of Englewood will also be held during this event. Come out, taste and vote for your local favorites. So join the fun from 6-11pm at Pioneer Park.
The Lemon Bay Woman’s Club presents the Diaper Derby on Sunday, September 3rd. For crawling babies only, sign up ahead of time as the number of entries is limited. Visitors can also attend day one of the Pioneer Day’s festival at Pioneer Park from noon-8 pm. There will be live music, vendors, a free kids’ zone, and much more. The Open Car Show takes place from 3-7pm on Dearborn St. For more information, please visit the website.
On Labor Day, the Festival Park will open at 8:00am and the Parade starts at 9:00 (rain or shine). The park will close at 3:00 PM. A day of entertainment and fun will be going on in Pioneer Park, next to Mango Bistro. There will be contests, more live music, and award presentations. Also, the Corvette Car Show takes place on Dearborn St. from 11am – 3pm.
This is a celebration of Englewood’s past and future. Each year, thousands of visitors gather to share in the celebration of this amazing town. The Englewood Pioneer Day’s Facebook page has pictures from past events.
